Description

As ever, Mazzucchelli keeps both the visual and storytelling fireworks coming…This is a work that demands to be read, re-read, analyzed, and discussed. Intellectual stuff from Hegel to Orpheus is referenced in this extremely well composed graphic novel.

I see this as a love story, and - among many other things - a story about the communication challenges that we experience because of our differences. There's a beautifully conceived, mostly wordless six-page, multi-panel scene of Asterios sadly remembering everything he loves about Hana that will send sensitive types scrambling for tissues.Nothing super sexy or anything (you pervs), but details that could have easily been left out of the conversation.

Early on, during an aside, Mazzucchelli presents a random group of people, each drawn in a different style and color, as a visual representation of how unique every person is.Asterios Polyp è la storia di un uomo che all'età di cinquant'anni, per una serie di ragioni, decide di cambiare vita e cercare il senso della propria esistenza. It contains a relatively simple story (and probably a deceptively simple one), but told in a dazzlingly stunning array of comic book techniques not possible in other mediums. Uno cuenta casi sin texto lo que es la cotidianidad de una relación de pareja desde una multiplicidad de tiempos y situaciones que se desarrollan o no consecutivamente, dependiendo de su posición en la página o el color utilizado. Each vignette has a specific palate, most using only two or three colors at a time--in fact, it isn't until the book's very last chapter that Mazzucchelli uses full four-color spreads--and there is no black in the book at all. This brazenly original and complex work is easily one of the year’s best novels, graphic or otherwise…Brilliant.

Asterios Polyp' es un cómic complejo, inteligente, riquísimo, satisfactorio a múltiples niveles, que habla de temas como filosofía, arquitectura, ficción, arte, etc. This is a comic for artists, and it plays with space and color in ways that maybe only artists will understand, but it is a story for everyone, and Asterios Polyp is easily among the best graphic novels ever made. Finally, Asterios must not only confront his own flawed nature, but the implacable and amoral whims of the gods themselves. Really beautiful, smart and heart-touching story of an architecture professor who, when he is 50, learns better. Which makes sense, as duality is the main theme of the book, of which their relationship is only one particular example.By rejecting non-essential cookies, Reddit may still use certain cookies to ensure the proper functionality of our platform. Una historia donde entrelaza forma y fondo para contar la vida de un personaje atrapado por una visión dual del mundo. As with most stories based on the Greek myths (as this one is), Asterios hits rock bottom before he can transform and get back on the road to realization.

Asterios Polyp is his first graphic novel, and has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and been listed as a New York Times notable book. In Asterios Polyp—the best of the summer’s new releases—Mazzucchelli employs spotlights, coloring schemes, knitting, Aristophanes, an identical twin who died at birth and the wide array of secretions from a woman’s body to lead us into the self-centered world of the title character even as the center implodes…. Why would anyone want to make such a well crafted and carefully thought through graphic novel about an architect struggling with his preconceptions on the nature of duality?Maybe I just found his self-absorbed personality too off-putting, but I didn't really feel any sympathy for him or care about his ideas about how the world works.
