They painted their entire paper with one warm colour then add texture by scraping a texture comb through the wet paint, then used texture wands to dab or roll another warm colour over the paper. I taped the leaf with the caterpillar onto the shorter piece of wire and simply wound the other taller wire around the butterfly body. After years of successfully teaching this project in my own studio classroom and in primary schools, I have decided to make this tutorial available as Eric Carle’s books are still very popular with teachers to engage young children in reading and art.

This is OK as long as they can scratch some textures on the wet paint using the milk bottle combs and other tools. The last segment on the motivation stage is to discuss with the students what they would like to create. It didn’t take long to realize that the pinnacle of Eric Carle’s work was the idea that storytelling and art go hand in hand. The Carle was founded in 2002 by Eric and Barbara Carle, and designed by Juster Pope Frazier Architects. His picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, first published in 1969, has been translated into more than 66 languages and sold more than 50 million copies.

Soak for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight in a laundry tub or a bucket, add 2 table spoons of laundry detergent and enough water to cover the garment.I demonstrated how they could glue down their ovals- we talked about arranging and overlapping- once again referring to Carle’s caterpillar. His illustrations influenced the industry in their use of design elements, such as holes in the pages of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or the sound mechanisms in The Very Quiet Cricket. It is important to invest time to collect materials to ensure a sufficient supply is available on hand. Carefully overlaying the pieces to create his illustration, he'd use wallpaper paste to hold the collage in place.

Eric Carle uses paper collage to illustrate his books by painting and decorating his own assortment of cut paper. first brought Carle critical acclaim, and his most famous picture book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, first published in 1969, has since been translated into more than 66 languages and sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. After he came up with an idea of specific illustrations he wanted to create, he'd draw them on tracing paper and overlay that on top of just the right piece of tissue paper. Love all types of artists and Eric Carle (predominantly a children's book illustrator) has long been a serious favourite.A clear example of this is when in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the caterpillar ate through a combination of very distinguishable items to children, like ice cream and chocolate cake, for example. The former Director of the Festival Cate Fowler, commissioned me to produce an activity involving collage, inspired by the books of Eric Carle, to be implemented during the week-long Festival. Martin's eye had been caught by a striking picture of a red lobster that Carle had created for an advertisement. How about, in The Mixed-Up Chameleon, when the chameleon wishes it could “better” like all of the other animals at the zoo, like having the strength of a bear or humor of a seal, but eventually realizes it was best just being a chameleon after all. While his collage technique was fairly simple, Carle's art consistently conveys both a sense of wonder and real delight in his subjects and characters.
