Recommended to those who love the idea of literature connecting people to one another, of finding love and hope at any age, and living a life that leads to a true path of caring, devotion and fealty. She, leaving her boys behind with their father and her cousin explore Lewis's world, that of Oxford and Cambridge, and of course finds herself falling for the author. It’s amazing to read stories which are linked with other famous authors and how their lives crossed, but also about belief/ religion and how this brought the two together. I'm also not 100% sure how accurate it is, but most of what I've actually checked seems about right.

She was drunk in love with the idea of England, Oxford, literary idols, alcohol (even though she was so harmed by alcoholism), and tobacco. Although separated by an ocean, seventeen years difference in age, and individual traumas, love is powerful. The book begins with her life as a wife and mother, and I could sense right away that something is not right in her marriage.

Nowadays, when I reflect on my interest in English, I can thank my aunt, an English teacher who clearly understood the importance of reading.

She ached, as we all do, to be accepted for who she really was even as she lost track of who she really was. Another was a time when he felt like he knew exactly what his mother wanted and brought it to her just as she needed it — a simple fly swatter. I have anticipated reading this book for months and FINALLY got to the top of the library wait list a few weeks ago. Despite being based on a very real and very interesting person who carefully selects her words, Joy Davidman is presented as a limp noodle who speaks in an annoying stream-of-consciousness way.

While I thought I was familiar with the story, I learned something new on every page, and polished this off in an enjoyable two days. After a recent surge of personal interest in the Chronicles of Narnia, I was really looking forward to reading Becoming Mrs. She was set to share the inspiration behind the improbable love story of Davidman and Lewis at the Adventures by the Book Spring 2020 Literary Tea Adventure on Saturday, March 28, but the event was canceled. Through her great friendship with Lewis she finds enduring love, a trusted friend and confidant, and a true writing partner. I’m in awe of the inspiring love that developed between the two, so remarkable in fact, that Joy is somewhat of a muse for Jack, sparking works that delight us to this day. There were some wonderful reading moments in this story as the author interspersed Joy's poetry and sonnets with the text of the story. They had so many deep conversations and were always so honest with each other that you can’t help but just love these characters. This work contains his concise, genuine reflections on that period: “Nothing will shake a man — or at any rate a man like me — out of his merely verbal thinking and his merely notional beliefs.S. Lewis’s honest reflection on the fundamental issues of life, death, and faith in the midst of loss.
