About this deal

Although all 12 new songs effortlessly rest on a familiar shelf of sunny California rock, this is a breakup album, and as such is admittedly more melancholic – indeed a little more indie – than we have come to expect from Lissie, who turns 40 later this year. We carry a broad range of CDs and vinyl (7”/12” singles and LPs) and specialise in indie, alternative, rock, punk, metal plus a few other genres. So Natalie Hemby actually is the one singing the harmonies on “Yellow Roses,” Madi Diaz came and sang some harmonies on “Sad. And not even on purpose, but there was just a ton of women who I wrote with on this record, and I did find there was something much more somehow efficient about that, whether that’s a coincidence or not.

The title alone of highlight “Night Moves” — a moody tune with an exciting driving rhythm — will have you itching to put on the Bob Seger song of the same name. And so I think that thing of just, take it day by day, give it time, that old cliche “Time heals all wounds. Having worked for many years with producer Curt Schneider – who also has credits with Patty Griffin, Jeff Beck, and Alanis Morissette among others – Lissie knew she could trust him to help her deliver this vision again. Then, the tillable acres, trying to take them out of crop production and putting everything into prairie. With references ranging from Fleetwood Mac and Florence + the Machine to Bon Iver, it’s her most emotionally resonant and personal record.

I get overwhelmed sometimes about how much I want to listen to something new, and I just don’t get the chance sometimes. She also started the process of writing a new album, which deals with, well, dealing with that pain (and bouncing back from it).

Due to inventory and accounting purposes, we do not exchange items received for different items than originally purchased. As I grieved – not only for a relationship, but for the world in the midst of a pandemic – I felt like my anger made people uncomfortable, but I came out the other side empowered and ready to step back into my light. Lissie has always written for the live stage, motivated by her desire for her touring band to do her albums justice without requiring access to digital or synthesised sounds.Lead single “Flowers,” written with Bre Kennedy, is a gentle slice of Southern rock that acknowledges the need to feel – “It’s allowed to hurt/I’m allowed to burn/I’m allowed to wonder what you’re doing now” – while hinting at a brighter future – “I can grow my own flowers.

L: And I know there’s an example like that that I should be giving you, and I cannot, for the life of me, pull it from my brain right now.Still, Lissie primarily uses the setting to look at the fallout from a breakup that occurred early in the era. While Chasing the Sun gave the idea of trying to see the light in life, looking for it even during the worst times, Night moves is more about being peacefully in the dark. As Lissie says, “I’m allowed to hurt – because you can’t go around it, you can’t skip it, you’ve gotta feel the feelings. Of course, like pretty much every person, I adore her, and I think she’s just amazing, and I love her style and her voice.
