With shocking twists and an emotional, but satisfying conclusion, this is an expertly-crafted, rollercoaster of a novel that had me gripped from the beginning' Jendella Benson'Dorothy Koomson is on formidable form .

Dorothy Koomson always knows how to pull her readers into a storyline and keep you completely wrapped up in the protagonist’s lives. Every book of hers that I’ve read has always gripped me from the very 1st page and this one is no exception! I won’t say any more as I don’t want to put spoilers in this review but trust me, this is such a unique story – I haven’t read a thriller with something similar, so good!As the reader gets to know more about modern-day Cleo, we are also taken back twenty-five years to when Cleo was a university student. I wonder, what music would Zack from Save By the Bell be into … If you came of age in the 90’s you’ll luv the pop culture references. Never one to rest on her laurels, Dorothy Koomson really takes things to another level with My Other Husband. TW: racism, grooming, paedophilia, murder, sexism, misogyny, harassment, mental health, rape ⚠️ This was a really good slow burner that hits you with twists and turns when you least expect it. With very strong and expertly drawn characters I found myself invested in them all the way through, though there were some necessary distasteful ones.

With shocking twists and an emotional, but satisfying conclusion, this is an expertly-crafted, rollercoaster of a novel that had me gripped from the beginning' Jendella Benson 'Dorothy Koomson is on formidable form . I had the pleasure of attending the online book cover reveal party and discovered the joys of Maltesers with coffee (it’s any acquired taste). I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nail, troubled many times as certain revelations took place. The many time changes and the different points of view made this difficult to follow at times as I found myself flicking back a few pages to check when the previous chapter was set. I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this.

We’re taken back to Cleo’s life when she first met Heath, how Trina said he was so ‘intense’ and it evolved over time that his relationship with Cleo in his mind was so magical that he had to do whatever he could to keep her in his life. From there begins our journey into Dorothy’s dark, twisty world as we go on a trip with Cleo, who harbours a deep secret that is the cause of her problems. Cleo is a successful author, but the people in her life are dying the same way as the characters in her novels are.

Dorothy was featured on the 2021 Powerlist as one of the most influential Black people in Britain and appeared in GQ Style as a Black British trailblazer. There is plenty of tension and suspenseful moments and some well thought out plot twists as it builds to a very good ending. But now she has decided to walk away from it all – including divorcing her husband, Wallace – before her past secrets catch up with her. A unusual and thrilling tale of long kept secrets and dangerous obsession, combined with a cast of very strong characters. My Other Husband" has a certain charm to it and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a quality French romantic comedy.Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation. Back in the present, Cleo finds herself under police scrutiny as murders start to occur that mimic the way Cleo crafted deaths for her Baking Detective series. If you have been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a fan and that I usually review her latest book around Spring/Summer. Nigerian food makes me feel nostalgic and reminds me of when I lived with my grandmother and how close I was to the authentic street food in Lagos.

What it lacks in originality is partially made up for with very likable characters and quality acting. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

Why has she told the TV company that no more shows will be made, and why on earth is she divorcing Wallace?
