A recommended read for anyone considering taking their 'First Steps in Counselling', or just interested in the field. First Steps in Counselling is essentially a book about helping and this fifth edition has been updated and revised with two co-authors; Paula J Williams and Andy Rogers. As Sanders explains, counselling is a multi-faceted animal and attitudes towards it and indeed its applications continue to develop.

He has written, co-written and edited a number of books, chapters and papers on many aspects of counselling, psychotherapy and mental health. This gem of a book maps out the territory of counselling practice in clear, concise, accessible language. This book has helped me alot through my level 1 counselling and have no doubt I will keep using it during my next course. The parcel was wrapped well and delivered very quickly so I can't accuse the postman ax no creases or dirt on package.

It is important for anyone in the counselling profession to be alert to issues of power and anti-oppressive practice throughout their career. All in all a useful tool for those just starting out in counselling let down by the ill advised presentation. They offer the trainee and novice helper a rich overview of the role, purpose and value of counselling skills in contemporary helping roles.

This was a recommended read on an Introductory Counselling course that I attended and a book that my tutor had raved about. I've given this a pretty high rating as it answered just about all the questions I had about person-centred counselling at an introductory level, gives a very good over-view of other counselling approaches and is written in an engaging and interactive way. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. One of those does what it says on the tin kind of text books; good overall introduction to counselling written in an accessible fashion and is highly interactive as it engages the student in written exercises as it goes along. This textbook is the second edition of the follow-on to First Steps in Counselling – the first edition has been a bestseller every year for twelve years. This fifth edition retains the vision and heart of the original book, thoughtfully restructured, developed and thoroughly updated. People who come to counselling are ordinary people experiencing difficulties in their life, talking to a trained counsellor is a way of understanding your life and to take responsibility and choices of our own.
