Surfaces such as newly rendered walls, natural stone, mud bricks, rammed earth, even canvas, can be painted directly. I loved Leda’s wisdom about the importance of the marks we leave behind and could understand clearly the author’s purpose in sharing Giorgione’s drive to make a mark upon history. New to me author, Damien Dibben had my attention from the first scene of a prologue that takes place after the events in the story and teases the reader into needing to know what happened.

Dobrze zobrazował też realia tamtych czasów i sposób działania pracowni malarskich oraz sam akt malowania. In nature, in the magnificent edifices of Venice, in fabrics and in the faces of the people, and of course in art. The initial starting point for this story was seeing the Giorgione exhibition at the Royal Academy and hearing Anish Kapoor talking about copyrighting the Vantablack colour.

He’s responsible not only for himself, but also for his team of young apprentices and assistants, so he urgently needs to find some way of gaining commissions from rich clients. When a wealthy merchant discovers a mysterious new pigment, he knows it would create a masterpiece in the right hands. So when Zorzo hears a rumour of a mysterious new pigment brought to Venice by the richest man in Europe, he sets out to acquire the colour and secure his name in history. As a wonderful painter more persons might think that he creates a masterpiece and drawing exciting picture like Mona Lisa. As the water levels rise and the plague creeps ever closer, an increasingly desperate Zorzo isn't sure whom he can trust. Although fictional, the book gives a real sense of the character of the Venetian painter Giorgione, who was a primary mover in the development of colour in Venetian painting.

However, if you enjoy immersing yourself in the world of art, you might still want to add this to your list of books to read. From behind closed windows and shutters, Zorzo’s aware of families pressed together, restless shadows, watching and fretting as to whether this episode will pass – as most do – without significant horror, or if this one will be severe. When I finally put it down, I felt like it had allowed me to inhabit a world very different from my own, one which was always exciting, always gripping.

We have especially developed our BAUWERK Prep Coat as a bridge coat between standard paint and primers to make limewash more durable, and easy to apply.
