About this deal

Overall, if you are interested in a great read that will give some perspective of what these poor people had to endure, and in the end see some triumph, this is a great book to do so. Her parents are very loving and try to shield her from the difficulties they face until the Occupation when her Father loses his job. This graphic novel is the same story as the novel by the same name and written by Antonio Iturbe, so I'm not going to summarize it again. I read as much as my gut will allow about the war, and I do not feel like the current youth is educated enough about what exactly had happened during this time. And so Dita becomes the secret librarian of Auschwitz, responsible for the safekeeping of the small collection of titles, as well as the 'living books' - prisoners of Auschwitz who know certain books so well, they too can be 'borrowed' to educate the children in the camp.

As I read in the epilogue this graphic novel which is based off the novel is to get you to read the novel.La llegada de los nazis a Checoslovaquia y sus acciones para someter a los judíos harán que pase de tener una infancia normal a acabar en el infierno. I only vaguely knew about books, but never about the librarian running such a clandestine operation in a death camp like Auschwitz.

In doing so, I found her reiterating portions of the book that one may have assumed were fictional, simply based on the cruel nature of the matter; yet, astonishingly, they really occurred. I didn't know about the Theresienstadt Family Camp until this book so it was really informative for me as well. There is in the camp a resistance movement led by one David Schmulewski, assisted by Rudi Rosenberg, whom the Nazis had made registrar to keep an ever fluctuating list of prisoners. This novel is one that could easily be recommended or taught alongside Elie Wiesel's Night and The Diary of Anne Frank and a text that, once read, will never be forgotten. Os encariñaréis con Dita y no podréis evitar querer descubrir qué será de ella y de muchas de las personas con las que se cruza.Like Markus Zusak's The Book Thief, it's a sophisticated novel with mature themes, delivering an emotionally searing reading experience. Es verdad que con el pan de comer y el agua de beber sobrevive el hombre, pero que solo con eso muere la humanidad entera.
