In a study, participants were shown a TV show with the sound off and had to guess what was going on and what types of emotions were being felt by the character. It does serve as a great premier especially if you are not entirely familiar with the psychology of body language. You might grab a pen or a notebook from your bag, you might turn around and take off your jacket, you might rearrange your chair – something for a few seconds where you aren’t making eye contact and allow them to check our your posture and presentation (obviously, going into a job interview, you would have already thought of this so your shirt is ironed, your shoes are polished, and your overall personal presentation is flawless so that you want to show it off). It is nice to have them all in one place and reading them might make you pay more attention to them. Yet most of us don’t know how to read body language– and don’t realize how our own physical movements speak to others. The Dictionary of Body Language is a companion “field guide” to What Every BODY is Saying, expanding the original work with hundreds of additional behaviours, and presenting them all in an easy-to-reference format. It has been proven that the most successful people in their careers are those who are highly aware of their body language and that of others. This book is less about reading others, and more about reading your body’s language and understand what your deeper self wants to say. Since childhood, I've always fantasized having the superpower of mind reading and ever since being exposed to a diverse set of materials on body language I can assert that I've actually cultivated some skills in this vain :D :P. Intuitively, we often can sense when someone is meaning something different to what they’re saying, but ti isn’t until reading a book like this that dissects a wide range of different types of body language that we can really learn to decode actions and gestures. It's much easier to do it with this book, since it's content is categorized from upper to lower body.

Book of Body Language’ by Allan and Review: ‘The Definitive Book of Body Language’ by Allan and

I think the author has a lot of information on body language but, this book was slow and boring for me. There are parts that are genuinely riddled with sweeping statements and superfluous information, but to be fair, there are also parts that actually are interesting and are based on psychological studies done on human behaviour and the resulting body language. The paraverbal aspects (gestures, tone of voice, posture, among others) have more forcefulness than the linguistic ones.
