This book picks up roughly where book one left off – it’s the start of a new school year and Summer is feeling optimistic…and you know what happens when characters start to feel good about things.

However, the pacing is great, the characters develop and grow and the author has built in some slow burning romance between Jules and Liam to keep the reader engaged. Now, Meyer's approach of the goose-turned Swan-but was really still a goose, Bella, associated herself as 'different' and a 'loner' only to arrive at her new school and be immediately popular and accepted by almost everyone. I may give this author another try in a different series or stand alone novel later and see if she has improved the themes underlying her stories. Desperate to save him, Ever travels to the mystical dimension of Summerland, uncovering not only the secrets of Damen's past—the brutal, tortured history he hoped to keep hidden—but also an ancient text revealing the workings of time. Nonetheless, I just saw this book sitting on a shelf at my local library and the prospect of making a bad review about it on Goodreads just made me happy, so here we are. Which, by psychic powers, she means "being restricted to only wearing hoodies, acting like a total loon, constantly treating your friends like shit, going deaf on heavy metal, and generally being a lacking human being".

If this novel had turned out to be a clunky read, I would have tossed it unfinished; but, upon completion I got the satisfaction of having made it to the end, and it was, superficially, a pleasant story. This story is enticing as you follow Ever’s spiritual journey, along with the normal school girl dilemmas: boys, school, popularity and family relationships. Now Jules must piece together the stories of her past lives to save the person who has captured her heart in this one. Certain things in the book hinted at the whole vampire vibe, that being a red (mysterious) drink, which leads to incredible speed and never getting ill.Alyson Noël created a well-detailed story that makes it easy for the reader to visualize both the characters and the world around them. Overall, a good book, a few little surprises (I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong), and I will be continuing the series. The longer you can stall any interesting event occuring, the less thinking you will actually need to do. And even with Ever having the abiltity to see her sister, she is still able to hold a sense of realism (although to be honest, this is a book about immortals…).
