This is what we all want and this is what I try to do when my mum friends talk to me about their problems. It was while sub editing a magazine feature about authors under 30 who had all written a novel that she decided to give it a go. As someone who is forty without the husband and children I’d always thought I’d have (and no real prospects on the horizon), I thought I’d finally found something I could relate to. She explores this outdated idea of achieving life goals by a specific age, and turns it on its head, in part thanks to 80-something Cricket. As a childless, single woman, there are days when I’m fine and there are days when I feel like I can’t face the world and an ad on telly makes me cry.

I had not heard of this author, and it was a 'stumble across' as I browsed an interstate catalogue (the perks of working in a library, and knowing where to look for the location of a book, Australia wide).Amid the laughter, tears, and unexpected turns, the author masterfully tackles deeper themes with sensitivity, giving the characters depth and authenticity.

It also annoys me that in society, if you're 25-40 and you're single/childless/unemployed (delete as applicable), you're deemed a failure. Yorkshire born and raised, Alexandra lives in London with her Californian husband and their Bosnian rescue dog. I really enjoyed this book and I felt like I can really connect with Nell as she tries to navigate life in her forties.Yes, there were sad bits and that made me teary, but the pure hope running through the book is so moving too.

Here is a quick description and cover image of book More Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up: The WTF AM I DOING NOW follow up to the runaway bestseller written by Alexandra Potter which was published in Expected publication August 17, 2023. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. Or maybe, ‘you have to read this book’ when their childless friends to try to talk to them about their struggles.a glamorous old friend who re emerges, an old friend who can do "put downs" in the most sophisticated way, an old friend who also flirts with your boyfriend. First of all, to be fair to the author, she doesn’t go down the whole probably won’t have children, but might just save it at the last minute (! Confessions was very much based around true events and I reference Brexit and other things that were happening and so I felt that I had to refer to Covid but I didn’t want it to be the main theme of the book and so I decided to start it on Freedom Day in July 2021.
