The House in the Woods" is the first book in Mark Dawson's new Mackenzie Jones/Atticus Priest series. He’s in the look for a big case and that comes in the form of the wife of a man who’s supposedly murdered his family on Christmas Eve while he will be the only one who’s to inherit the family’ possessions. I will eagerly look forward to reading the next Atticus Priest book, which, conveniently, is already out although I never read books by the same author in succession. Leaving Ireland as a young woman, she tread the boards on the London stage but a cloud always lingered over her.

I won’t place any spoilers here, but the story evolves into a highly addictive read in which the ending is sure to satisfy Fielding’s audience. Dawson paints his characters with such nuanced and delicate strokes — a skill that’s all-the-more noticeable upon reflection — that they not only come to life on the page, but they render themselves so wonderfully flawed and complete, it is as if they somehow manifest themselves onto the readers frontal-lobe as opposed to being written in segments and sentences by the author. I love poltergeist activity and become very excited when I discover objects piled up high or laid out in a pattern. Thank you for writing this book, and I hope I don’t have to wait five more years for the next one in this style!Hardback: illustrated in colour and b/w by the author, no dj, book is bound in cloth which is faded and lightly marked, split on the lower back spine fold, spine tips and corners worn, inscription on piece of paper pasted to the front endpaper, owner's name on flyleaves (pencil). Evie Laurence was a successful actor for many years, now retired she wants to spent her final years in Heronbrook where she spent many a family summer holiday. I had only just begun my career as a paranormal investigator at the time; I was green and very nervous. Low on money, desperate to find something to satisfy his natural talents he opens a detective agency. It turned out to be a lucky draw and I had a great time with this mystery and new detective acquaintance, Atticus Priest.

I enjoyed the story about a pair of sisters who are painfully at odds with each other over the years, beginning as teenagers and ending as elderly ladies. The main narrative delves into the aftermath of one of the family accused of murdering the entire family in this aforementioned, isolated and eery dwelling deep in the woods of England. Not because it was an exciting, adrenaline filled, fast paced rush - quite the opposite - no, because it is throughly engrossing, with complicated lead characters and equally complex secondary characters. Writing took me back to those times as a child, terrified on the sofa, and I know I would have loved stories like this - it just so happens that some of today’s young adults seem to enjoy my spooky adventures too.Clovis was about to begin a speech… but the others… were not in the mood for one of his long-winded scientific ramblings. This place holds many memories for her ever since her family holidayed there when she and her sister Pippa were younger. Amber is initially reticent but on seeing how incapacitated Evie is she considers her mother’s suggestion and agrees that the time-out would provide her with the much needed escape. I love the direction her books have taken over the course of the last several years and you can tell she enjoys writing in this genre and keeping her readers entertained and guessing.

The House in the Woods is an engaging British crime thriller from the creator of the John Milton series. Yvette Fielding was the youngest ever Blue Peter presenter at age 18, and she's since gone on to host and produce Ghosthunting With. Atticus Priest is a former detective with the Salisbury CID, who lost his job for drug use and has now set up as a private investigator. It is an intriguing story with many twists and turns before we finally found out who really did commit the murders. There were so many layers to unravel right up to the very last chapter and I loved this accepted) aspect. The idea of this blog is to share my passion for reading and review new and upcoming books as well as those that may have been out for several years. Scientists believe that the stones can record sound and vision in and around a building and then when the conditions are right the stones act as a projector.
