What a fantastically original design – futuristic in nature with design features that make it look more like a concept car than a sports car. I had to find out more – and you know me gang….I did.

As we continue to dig into the magazines of the 1950s and 1960s searching for cars, stories, and information about the era where anything seemed possible, we find photos and articles that show no end to the creativity and excellence in designing and building your own car. Today’s story is one in a series that we’ll be writing about John Osborn and his custom built sports cars. Boy, what a frustrating film to watch....even though it is very good and has been a part of my collection for a number of years now. Still, it's hard to see the good guy, the little guy, beaten up by the big guys. Here's one story where Goliath beats David.Schumacher, Michael. Francis Ford Coppola: A Filmmaker's Life. You can see this ad below – a nicely built fiberglass sports car – futuristic in design:

Well, the funniest was Marc Newson, the industrial designer, who has this incredible, all-original 1933 Bugatti Type 59. When I interviewed him, he was in Greece, and he said, “Listen, the car is outside London being stored. You can go anytime and shoot it.” So I fly to London, organize a taxi service to schlep me out to the farm where it was stored … and nobody told them I was coming. The owner of the farm had broken his arm, and this Bugatti was buried in the garage, surrounded by all these other priceless cars. I said, “We gotta get the Bugatti out of here!” Recently we located the family of John Osborn and we’ll be sharing the history of John, his cars, and family photos such as the one below of the car in today’s story here at Forgotten Fiberglass. This latest stunning book from award winning publisher Coterie Press, Ian Walker Racing, The Man and His Cars, explores the life and times of Ian Walker. "Walker The Talker" as he was frequently referred to, was an astute businessman whose life offered many challenges. Ian Walker and Ian Walker Racing were prominent names in motor racing in the 1960's alongside that of Colin Chapman and Lotus, with whom he enjoyed a great friendship. Ian Walker embraced almost all forms of post-war motorsport, from rallying to racing, from driver to team manager, from car manufacturer to car dealer, all achieved in just ten years.Caption 1: This is a completely fiberglass sports car fitted to an Oldsmobile chassis. Body styling is unique, built by the owner from Michigan. It features a row of quad headlights set within the lower grille opening and unusual grille shell inner sections that protrude like huge wing tank bombs. Center section of grille is chrome mesh. The 1940s atmosphere in this film is very good and the old music is fun to hear, too. The cinematography is great, too, with some tinted vintage-type color at times. It looks wonderful on DVD.
