Many of them have effects using the black cubes, though some of them are just cool in their own right. The Cloning Vats offer you a sneaky way to protect yourself against bounty hunters (those pesky red cubes that show up near the end of the game). The cards in both versions of the game all have icons representing their value in acquiring other cards, movement and/or combat.

You'd better hope your friends are louder than you are if you want to make it to an escape pod and get out alive. In addition to hording artifacts, Lord Eradikus is trying to wipe out the resistance against him through some kind of nefarious scheme. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process. It’s more expensive than just another expansion would have been and probably doesn’t offer enough of a new experience to justify having both, unless you play Clank!

The evil Lord Eradikus has all but conquered the galaxy and is now on a victory lap across the sector in his flagship, Eradikus Prime. In the Global Interment scheme above, once the first level is filled, all Master Keys are removed from the Market (if you’ve already bought one, you’re fine). It’s just complex enough to make you feel like you’re catching on to something complex, but not so much so that it causes frustration with the more beginning players.

However, the fact that cards have point values that score at the end of the game throws a wrench straight into that strategy. Once assembled it does create a really cool looking shape of a space ship which just adds even more to the already awesome theme. It’s a game of pushing your luck: chasing the valuable treasurers forces you to travel deeper into the dungeon but the longer you stay, the angrier the dragon will get. A few others are also bumbling around the ship, making noise, attracting unwanted attention, and scooping up the good stuff for themselves. The Command Center (which you still need to hack dataports in two modules to access) is on top now, with all five artifacts spread out and lots of security checkpoints. Many of the games’ cards, including those two infuriating stumbles in your deck, force you to add “clank”.

Every enemy has a number of Sword icons on the bottom of the card frame, and enemy cards have a red Banner. So ultimately you are moving around the tiled board trying to retrieve an artifact and then move back to the beginning close to where you started and get on an escape pod and get the heck outta there. The modular board and the large pile of tokens to randomly place out means that no two games of Clank! After all this time, what do you think is the best way to play Clank / Clank in Space and which of them do you prefer?

Plus if another were to escape or die first, Lord Eradikus will kick up the eradication efforts another notch. The ideas behind the schemes are pretty cool too, and the increasing effects of them give players another reason to take black cubes from the scheme. In addition to the Clank cubes, there are four Bounty Hunters (they are added to the Clank bag later for extra awfulness) and there’s also a Blockade token which we’ll get to in a bit, but I promise you it’s awful/awesome. This standalone game sees players sneak into Lord Eradikus's dark flagship to steal his artifacts, while trying to stay quiet enough to avoid sealing their own doom. It took me 4 readings of the book to discover that a black cube that you have at the end of the game gives you one point because it’s buried in a paragraph about taking black cubes from the scheme.
