Though they were law enforcement, the Scottish police may have been chilled by the fact that the body was found next to a fairy mound. Dotted throughout the British Isles, these enchanted hills are often the remnants of Iron Age Celtic structures that have been covered by vegetation over time. Even stranger, the corpse was said to have been covered in small, unidentifiable scratches. THE HAUNTED ISLE Jimi Hendrix may have written his song 'Wind Cries Mary' for one of his girlfriends named Kathy Mary, but there is startling comparison to the death of Netta Fornario within this song.

Mysterious Death of Netta Fornario - Historic Mysteries

a review of The Immortal Hour (an occult opera about fairies) under the name ‘Mac Tyler’, which she claimed to have watched “some three and twenty” times. (Full review here.) The Aos S í , or Shee in our story, are far removed from the typical fairy tale. Folklore describes them as a supernatural race of beings that live in a parallel universe overlapping our own. In Gaelic folklore, they are descended from the Tuath Dé , a pre-Christian race of demigods. In other traditions, they are considered fallen angels, cast out of heaven but not damned to H ell. By all accounts, they are ancient and powerful beings worthy of fear and respect. Some years after the end of World War 1, she decides to take a spiritual pilgrimage of sorts to the Scottish Island of Iona. Why this island had a reputation like it did, can only be explained by its history. There's a lot more info in the video but in short, ever since an exiled monk landed there and built a monestary, it has been hailed as the defacto birthplace of Christianity for those regions. Several kings, lords and holy figures have also been burried on the island, further cementing it in the imagination of those looking for the occult in those days. What relevance does the carved cross have? Was she trying to set up some elaborate suicide? Maybe trying to perform some occult ritual that would get her closer to the fairies she had been looking for. Netta spent most of her days wandering the tiny island alone and spent her nights engaged in various supernatural practices. At some point after her death, Netta Fornario was reproduced along with other members of the Golden Dawn by Coronzon, through the application of Tarot-based grimoires, as part of her anti- Crowley countermeasures. [2] [3] Chronology [ ] Coronzon Arc [ ] Main article: Coronzon Arc A Gothic tale of magic, madness, murder and mystery set on Iona. Mixing fiction with real events - the unexplained and controversial death of Netta Fornario, a remarkable young lady closely linked to the inner circle of the Occult Society of the Golden Dawn. Movie buffs among you will recognise the area from the film Stardust which was filmed in the Fairy Glen while I lived on Skye. Her death remains a mystery to this day. Was she murdered by people offended by her unconventional views? Was her death supernatural or merely the inevitable conclusion of untreated paranoid schizophrenia? The Mysterious Death of Netta Fornario is a chilling account mixing fiction with the real events of a still controversial death, suitable for age 14+.

Netta Fornario: Iona’s Occult Mystery - Mysterious Britain

Netta saw The Immortal Hour twenty-three times, likely during its 1922-23 run in London. Oddly, she laments that the play did not receive a longer run, due to the politics of Boughton, the composer. By all accounts the production was a smash hit and ran for an unprecedented 211 straight performances in 1922 and additional 160 the following year. Regardless, her remarks show a deep understanding of the allegorical references intended by the author. Iona is a small island off the West coast of Scotland with a long religious and mystical history. In the late 1920s it was the scene of the mysterious death of Netta Fornario. Her motives and the manner of her passing have been the subject of much debate over the years. Netta’s death is both a medical and paranormal anomaly. Over the years, many people have found themselves questioning the medical examiner. Moina Mathers was an eccentric and flamboyant personality. Mathers was born Mina Bergson on February 28, 1865, in Geneva, Switzerland. She was the fourth of seven children in a gifted but struggling Jewish-Irish family. Her father, Michel Gabriel Bergson, was a French musician, and her mother, Katherine Levison, was from Ireland. Her brother, Henri, became famous as a philosopher. When Mina was not quite three years old, her family moved to Paris in search of musical work for Michel. In 1873, the family moved to London.Iona itself certainly does look beautiful and an interesting place to visit if you're in to history.
